Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls matte painting

This is another matte painting I did for Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls cinematic. A different angle that had to have the lighting match the establishing shot matte painting I had done earlier. There's a bridge from the set that leads into the mouth, this is just the matte painting. I had to also do multiple projections onto geometry to accommodate the camera move, this shot had a lot of parallax!

CGMA Matte Painting Class

I'll be teaching a new matte painting class over at CGMA Academy this fall. They offer some amazing courses from some of the best artists in the industry and I'm honored to be apart of it... so go check it out!

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

This was one of the matte painting shots I did for the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls cinematic at Blizzard. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, I also worked with the awesome Laurent Pierlot to deliver the final shot. The art director on the show Chris Thunig is one of the best I've worked with, his sense of design is ridiculous.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Cinematic

I had the pleasure of being the lead matte painter on this show and I'm very happy with the way it came out. There are some ridiculously talented artists at Blizzard and this cinematic is a display of their awesome skills!
I'll be posting some artwork soon!

3D World Magazine!

Check out 3D World Magazine September issue for our tutorial on how we put together the full CG environment shot here: 3Dworld article.

the matte department

I'd like to share this personal project that I worked on with my friend and co-worker Fabio Zungrone. We had some down time and decided we wanted to take on a full CG fly through shot. It took us about 2 months to complete from concept stage to full compositing. Check out the project here with the full shot breakdown: themattedepartment.com

blog it up

So I've finally decided to start a blog. A website is great, but its too static and lacks the constant fresh content.
Here I can share links, sketches and tutorials that might not be suitable for the "official" website. Lets get this beast rollin'.
